Rackauckas Solicits Campaign Cash from OCDA Convicted Prosecutor Who Betrayed Office Under His Watch

Campaign Donor Was Known By Rackauckas As Convicted Felon For Leaking Confidential Information from Inside the DA’s Office In O.C. Drug Ring Tied to the Hell’s Angels

ORANGE COUNTY – October 4 – Today, the Todd Spitzer for District Attorney campaign revealed more contributions from convicted felons reflected by his attached campaign finance statements (Form 460).

As recently as 09/04/2018 Rackauckas' campaign solicited monies from former deputy district attorney Bryan Kazarian who was indicted in June 1999, for leaking information from inside the OCDA’s office about the investigation of an alleged drug ring. According to the L.A. Times article written at the time, “Among the defendants are the alleged leader, John David Ward, 28, of Orange, and Howard Irvine Coones, 44, of Garden Grove, founder and president of the Orange County chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club.” Rackauckas was in office at the time Kazarian was charged with the felony against the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and responded to the charges in an L.A. Times article, "This painful and unfortunate incident should not in any way be taken as a reflection on the more than 1,200 honest, hard-working men and women of Orange County's district attorney's office." [1]

According to the California State Bar website, “BRYAN RAY KAZARIAN [#152804], 39, of Santa Ana was summarily disbarred Feb. 14, 2003, following a conviction for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. He was ordered to comply with rule 955 of the California Rules of Court. "Kazarian's misconduct met the two criteria for summary disbarment: he was convicted of a felony and his crime involved moral turpitude.”

The news comes just a few months after Rackauckas was exposed for keeping campaign cash from convicted con artist Farzaneh Akhavi (money laundering/identity theft) and fraudster Todd Kaplan (tax evasion). Rackauckas cheats in every aspect from trying to artificially boost his conviction rate with excessive plea-bargaining, cheating in the courtroom and now funding his doomed re-elect campaign with cash from cheaters.

Now Rackauckas is allowing his campaign contributions to reflect on the honest and hard-working men and women of the OCDA’s office by embracing the disgraced former prosecutor who was disbarred and sent to prison for committing the ultimate sin.

Todd Spitzer said, “It is unbelievable that this is not only a convicted felon but a former prosecutor known to Rackauckas to have cheated the entire DA's Office and jeopardized law enforcement.”

Spitzer continued, “Rackauckas’ hypocrisy is maligning the great work of the men and women of the District Attorney’s office who want to be proud of their public agency and his constant cheating continues to threaten the integrity of our justice system. Rackauckas has been bought and paid for by criminals – the very people he is responsible to protect us from.”

Spitzer concluded, "It is no wonder that the FBI kicked Rackauckas off its Orange County Corruption Taskforce because of his untrustworthiness." [2]
